Introduction

If you know me, you know I love pop culture. I am always the friend who knows what’s trending, what just dropped and what everyone is talking about. For this blog, I wanted to take something I already enjoy and look at it from a more intentional and professional angle.

This blog focuses on pop culture through a public relations and marketing lens. I will post twice a week, covering everything from celebrity moments and social media trends to new movies, TV shows, music releases and major brand campaigns. If it’s shaping conversation, I want to talk about it.

Why Pop Culture?

The purpose of this blog is to go further than what is happening and dig into why it’s happening and how. Pop culture moments don’t become iconic or go viral just by accident. There is almost always a strategy backing them up. It could be a well-timed celebrity announcement, a brand campaign that takes over TikTok or a movie release that builds audience anticipation for months. Whatever it is, there is a significant amount of behind-the-scenes PR and marketing work involved. I want to break down those strategies and explore how they influence public opinion, perception, and behavior.

I chose this topic for my blog because it’s something that I genuinely appreciate. I have always been interested in entertainment, fashion, and celebrity culture, and I spend a lot of time keeping up with what is going on. Being chronically online definitely helps me stay informed, but this blog is a way to turn that interest into something more driven. Instead of just consuming and talking about content with my friends, I want to analyze it.

This also connects to my future career aspirations. As a public relations major, I’m interested in pursuing a career in fashion, beauty or lifestyle PR. These industries are closely tied to pop culture, and understanding how trends, campaigns, and public perception work is important. I hope this blog will help me think more critically about the kind of work I want to do and the industries I want to be a part of.

Credentials

While I have never written a blog before, I have developed strong writing skills through my course work at the University of Oregon. I have completed brand image analyses, news releases, pitch emails, research presentations, and mock agency projects. These experiences have helped me learn how to think strategically, write clearly, and analyze communication in a professional way. I am excited to apply those skills in a more creative format.

As a whole, this blog is a space for me to combine my interests with my academic and career goals. If you’re interested in pop culture but also want to understand the “how” and “why” behind it, this blog is for you.
